What’s changed in the last 15 years?
- The move to R410A refrigerant from R22 (Freon) as mandated by the EPA
- The deregulation of utility costs (oil, gas and electricity) and its significant impact on residential heating and cooling expense to the consumer. This increase has stimulated manufacturers (via government prompting and mandates) to provide more energy efficient products both meeting and/or exceeding government standards. Adding to that, the significant rise in the cost of commodities i.e., copper and aluminum, the consumer is now faced with a major investment in purchasing an energy efficient HVAC system.
- Due to the greater use of the internet consumers are more educated and have access to information that was never available to them before. This allows them to be more diligent when making major purchases such as home improvements, autos and the like
- The ability to use programmable thermostats once only afforded to a few have helped to significantly lower utility bills for the average consumer. Some of the more sophisticated thermostats allow you to display outside temperatures, indoor and outdoor humidity, and service reminders to change filters when necessary. Wireless thermostats allow the homeowner move them to best utilize them according to seasonal changes

- Will the consumer see a significant return on their investment determined by how long on plans to stay at their current residence?
- How important is temperature control by area, floor and rooms?
- Are air purification, filtration, humidity, bacteria and mold issues requiring system integration?
- What are the existing conditions presented by the homeowner, i.e. 2nd floor not cooling, air is too dry in winter, A/C runs constantly and never gets below 78, issues solvable by product or mechanical capability (improved air flow)?
